How we research, verify, and publish
Sourcing
Every factual claim on a state page traces to one of three source types:
- Official state agency publications — the state health department, medical cannabis authority, or equivalent body that administers the program. These are the primary source for fees, qualifying conditions, application processes, and program rules.
- State statutes and administrative code — the enacted law and implementing regulations. These are the primary source for possession limits, cultivation rules, caregiver requirements, and legal definitions.
- Established policy research organizations — NORML, Marijuana Policy Project, and similar organizations that maintain state-by-state databases. These are used as cross-references, never as sole sources for legal claims.
What we publish and what we withhold
A state page publishes immediately with everything that is true and verified. Specific facts not yet verified against the official source render as a pending notice rather than a guess:
“Verifying current requirements — see official source”
This applies to: fees, qualifying conditions, process steps, timelines, validity periods, renewal terms, telehealth policies, plant counts, and caregiver limits. Nothing false is ever published. As facts are verified, they appear automatically.
Freshness and monitoring
State cannabis laws change. We monitor official sources and legislative activity. When a change is detected, affected pages are flagged for review before any update is published. Published dates on state pages reflect the actual date of the last verified review, not the date the page was generated.
We do not fake freshness. A page that has not been re-reviewed does not claim to have been.
AI-assisted content
Some content on this platform is drafted with AI assistance. All AI-drafted content — including blog posts generated from legislative monitoring — is reviewed by a human before publication. Auto-publish is prohibited.
AI is never used to invent legal facts, fabricate state program details, or generate claims that have not been verified against an official source.
Affiliate content
This platform earns revenue through affiliate relationships with medical cannabis evaluation providers. Affiliate content is always identified with disclosure language. Affiliate relationships never influence the factual content of state pages, and official state resources are always visually distinct from affiliate recommendations.
A state page never shows an affiliate provider in a jurisdiction where that provider does not operate, and never shows a provider whose tracking has not been verified.
